A grant helped a Myerstown farm plan for a fertile future. Other farmers can benefit, too.
Over the last few years, Myerstown farm owner John Kline was looking to pass his business to his children.
"The transitioning of farms from one generation to the next is very difficult," said Kline's son, Jacob.
"It creates some hard conversations, and there's just a lot going on so taking time to do that planning is very, very important."
In 2019, Kline received a $7,500 Farm Vitality Planning Grant to help his family in the transition process of the farm to his five sons.
The transition created two operations managed by the Kline family, the 225-acre Klinedell Farms and 67-acre Diamond Valley Dairy.
"Three of us brothers and our families operate this (dairy) barn and then also have full-time jobs," he said.
